Choosing the right vibrator is not always easy. There seems to be so much to choose from. Gone
are the days of penis shaped vibrators in flesh or plastic. Now we have intimate massagers, clit
stimulators, g-spot vibes, rechargeable, silicone, plastic, metal rubber, thin, thick, bendy, ribbed,
ergonomically designed, multi vibes, smart balls... it's enough to make your eyes water and
harder than ordering a Sub! So how do you make sure you are making the right choice? You need
to ask yourself a few questions first.

1) What type of toy should I choose?

You need to ask yourself what turns you on.

Do you love penetration? Have you always wanted to find your G-spot or try some anal pleasure?
Do you need clitoral stimulation to have an orgasm? When you decide what really turns you on
you will know which type of toy to choose.

There is a difference between a dildo and a
vibrator. Dildos are penis substitutes. Vibrators
on the other hand are not. At least I have
never come across one that buzzed and if I
had I would have married it!! Dildos are for
those amongst us who love the feeling of being
penetrated. And boy do they come in all sizes
from a modest six inches to foot longs. Again
this comes down to personal preference just
don't forget the lube.
If you, like most women, need more than just penetration
to orgasm then a vibrator is sure to get you there. A
sensation like no other, every woman should try a vibrator
at least once in her life. A vibrator can be used externally
and it can be used for penetration. Choose a vibrator with
multi-speeds so that you can adjust it to suit you. I would
recommend you chose a vibrator that has different
pulsations as the change in pace can very quickly bring
you to orgasm whereas full on vibrations can become a
little numbing after a while. If you have never used a vibe
before you will be extra sensitive so different speeds and
pulsations can stop it being too intense. For the ultimate in
pleasure I would advise you choose a vibrator that has a
clitoral attachment as well. These vibrate on your clit while
the shaft is vibrating inside you. Heaven!!! We have all seen
the much publicised "rabbit" as featured on Sex and the City
and they are popular for a reason. These contain little balls
that rotate just at the entrance to your vagina, the head
rotates and the bunny ears stimulate your clitoris. The Mini
i-Vibe is one vibe I would highly recommend.
A great way to start out in the world of vibes. Clit stimulators
can be used alone or with your partner during sex. As he
penetrates you from behind he can reach around with the clit
stimulator in his hand, to heighten your pleasure. It adds a
whole new dimension to sex. You can even use it on him.
Trace it between the skin between his balls and bum to drive
him wild. Again I would advise you choose a clit stimulator
that has adjustable speeds. And use your imagination with it.
They are for external use only but explore your body with it
or let him explore your body with it. Try it on other
erogenous zones and see how wonderful it feels.
If you have ever wondered if your G spot exists here is your
answer. G-Spot vibes usually bend or have a hook shaped
end to hit that wonderful spot a couple of inches in on the
front wall of your vagina. Everybody is raving about the
Rock Chick and it didn't win best adult toy for nothing. The
idea behind this rather strange looking U shaped vibe is that
you insert and rock til your hearts content. Vibes now come
in hands free! The U shape means that it can stimulate your
G spot and your clit at the same time.
Surprisingly to many women, there is much fun to be had with anal
play. With lots of patience and lube this can be immensely
pleasureable. If you want to try this with your partner, using a vibe
can be a great way to start. Practising with a vibe means that you
are in control and also means that you can get used to the feeling of
having something there. It is very important that you chose a
vibrator that has been specifically designed for anal use. These vibes
are flared at the bottom to avoid the object being sucked up and an
embarrassing trip to the emergency ward! A particular favourite is
the Ass-Berry, which is moderately sized and emits powerful
vibrations. For more information see my article on how to have great
anal sex.
2) What material should I choose?

This will depend on personal preference and budget. What material do you like to feel against
your skin? Are you allergic to anything? How much are you willing or able to spend?

Jelly Rubber

Jelly dildos and vibrators are the most inexpensive option but tend give off milder sensations
than silicone or plastic as they absorb the vibrations. It is also recommended that you use a
condom with jelly vibrators, particularly if you have sensitive skin.

Plastic

Plastic vibes are hard and have extremely powerful vibrations. The material can mean that the
vibrations are pinpointed in a particular spot or spread across a large area but the intensity of
the vibrations can sometimes become a little numbing. Variable speeds are highly
recommended. The other drawback of a plastic vibe is that they are noisier than other toys but
they are easy to keep clean as their surface does not absorb body fluids.

Medical Grade Silicone

Medical grade silicone is the latest and safest in vibrator materials. Completely hypoallergenic
this material feels soft and smooth against the skin, is easy to keep clean and allows for intense
vibrations that can spread across a larger area as they easily resonate through the silicone.
Medical grade silicone is more expensive than rubber or plastic but well worth it.

Note that silicone vibrators cannot be used with silicone based lubricants or strong alcohol
wipes.

Metal

Metal vibrators are also safe, easy to clean and can be used for internal and external
stimulation but they have several additional benefits. Metal vibrators have a weight that can
considerably enhance pleasure when using for penetration. The material also causes the
vibrations to resonate in a different manner which gives off a noticeably different sensation.
Their ability to warm up and cool down adds another dimension to their ability to pleasure. Their
only drawback is that they can be quite expensive.

Test It!

I do not mean rip open the packaging and make yourself comfy on the shopfloor! Yet it is best
if you can feel the material and the vibrations before you buy. This was one of the reasons
that led me to set up April Nites which is a unique experience in adult home shopping and is
ladies only to make the whole experience of buying a sex toy more comfortable. I would advise
you get your girlfriends together, book a party, try before you buy and ask questions. Click
